I have so many pics of these little guys, but I still can’t stop myself taking more whenever I see them. The light was really good for these shots too, so I just sat and snapped away while they fed on the Grevillea flowers.

I’d never seen one up close before! This was taken down in Byron Bay a few weeks ago. It was just cruising through a large patch of long grass across the road from where we were staying.

Nobody seems to like Crows much, and I have a theory that it’s purely because they don’t have a pretty sounding song like many other birds.
I love them though, especially the Torresian Crows. They’re making a nest in one of the tall trees behind our yard, and keep coming down to look for sticks.

Friendly little guy that hangs out in my back yard sometimes (when not being chased by the Noisy Miners).
They sit there shuffling their wings over and over, and make this weird mewling sound, almost like a cat.

I don’t remember hearing any Silvereyes around here last year, or the year before, but this year there seem to be plenty of them.
I followed a feeding pack around the forest near here, and got a couple of shots before they disappeared off up to the tops of the trees again.

Ah, Spring is here…
And all day now I can hear the constant “Bic… bic… bic… bic… bic…” from the seemingly hundreds of baby Noisy Miners.

This was actually taken just off my back deck. I could hear about four or five birds carrying on, making all this noise, so I came out to see what the drama was about. It turns out it was only one bird. They’re very accomplished mimics! They also make this incredibly weird twanging sound. It’s like an old dot-matrix printer run through a vocoder… or something like that. Bizarre, to say the least.

Oh hi, I’m just sitting here pretending to be a tree. These are not the droids you’re looking for.

The Sacred Kingfishers turn up in the forest near my house every year, around the beginning of Spring. I can hear their “Bip bip bip bip” call all day long, so I’m prompted to go and find them. He picked up a nice lizard snack while in the process of evading me.
