Eastern Yellow Robin

January 13th, 2010

One of the coolest birds I’ve had a chance to hang out with and photograph.  They’re just so curious, they buzz around you checking out everything that you do.  I think I got a bit to close at one point though, as I got rather told off!  Haha.

Pied Butcherbird

October 13th, 2009

Pied Butcherbirds have the most beautiful song.  They seem to sing quite a lot at night time too, which I thought was quite odd.  Perhaps it’s a nesting time thing, I’m not really sure.Pied Butcherbird

Grey Butcherbird

October 10th, 2009

I love these little guys, they have so much character.  They definitely nest somewhere near our house too, as I can see/hear them all day.Grey Butcherbird

Mistletoe Bird

October 10th, 2009

This one was pretty young.  It had its little berry, but I don’t think it quite knew what to do with it, since it was a bit too big for it to swallow.Mistletoe BirdMistletoe Bird 2

Fig Birds

October 9th, 2009

A male (with the red) and a juvenile (with the berry) Fig Bird, taken in the Morningside Cemetery last year.  I wish I’d had a sound recorder with me, as the male was making all these cool clicks and beeps while I was creeping around snapping pics of him.Fig Bird 3Fig Bird 2

Leaden Flycatcher

October 9th, 2009

This is from a couple of years ago now.  A curious little female (or possibly juvenile)  Leaden Flycatcher was checking us out as we wandered through the forest.  We nicknamed it ‘Tail of Doom’, as when they get agitated, they shake their tails around, presumably in an effort to make you leave.  Scary!Leaden Flycatcher 3Leaden Flycatcher 4

Blue Faced Honeyeater

October 7th, 2009

This was taken just near it’s nest, hence it was making certain to keep an eye on whatever I was doing there.Blue Faced Honeyeater 3

Rainbow Lorikeets

September 30th, 2009

I have so many pics of these little guys, but I still can’t stop myself taking more whenever I see them.  The light was really good for these shots too, so I just sat and snapped away while they fed on the Grevillea flowers.

Pheasant Coucal

September 30th, 2009

I’d never seen one up close before!  This was taken down in Byron Bay a few weeks ago.  It was just cruising through a large patch of long grass across the road from where we were staying.
